Passed away peacefully on Sunday May 31, 2020 at Covenant Cooper; age 90 years. Bill Speer was born on August 20, 1929 in Ogdensburg, NY to the late Webster and Hilda Speer. He honorably served in the U.S. Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant. William graduated from Purdue University where he played football. He was employed by Saginaw Steering Gear as a mechanical engineer until his retirement. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 150, the chairman of the Frankenmuth Bavarian Festival 1976, and a Paul Harris Fellow. William served on the City Township Commission, the Wixom Library, City Council, City Planning Commission and numerous other boards and commissions.
Surviving are: 4 children Sherry Galsterer of Frankenmuth, MI, Dru (John) Deterding of Frankenmuth, MI, Michael (Mary) Speer of Tuscola Township, MI, and Dawn (Phillip) Bernthal of Frankenmuth, MI; 12 grandchildren Matthew (Heather) Galsterer, William (Heather) Galsterer, Stephanie (Marcus) Knuth, Elizabeth (Scott) Merrihew, Emilie Deterding, Rebecca (Ben) Hicks, David (Marion) Speer, Jennifer (Marcus) Underwood, Dru (Adam) Montri, Gwen (Scott) Victorson, Nathan (Karly) Bernthal, and Jacob (Brooke) Bernthal; 31 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers Jack Speer, David Speer.
Bill was preceded in death by 1 sister Virginia; 1 son-in-law Robert Galsterer.
According to William's wishes cremation has taken place. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the American Red Cross or please make a blood donation at a local donation center.
